All About Dawn

Dawn (Aurora in Spanish) lived in Mexico City from 1973-1975. Since most of her modeling assignments were normally on location outside of Mexico City, that factor presented her the chance to see places in Mexico that not all tourists, or many native Mexicans are privileged to visit.
She embraced every chance to learn all that she could during her stay in Mexico. As she was learning to speak Spanish little by little, she developed friendships with individuals from several different States in Mexico. They were thrilled to share information regarding the “appreciation” of each area’s rich history that exists throughout the country.
She had the opportunity of meeting and on occasion, working with many well known persons such as: Dolores del Rio, Pedro Infante Jr., Maria Felix, Juan Gabriel, Tito Guizar, and many others. In some instances, she established longtime friendships, as with Mario Burrul of the “Los Chulumbeles de Espaňa”, until his death in the early 90’s.
Among the many fascinating places she had the honor of visiting, was the site of the fatal automobile accident of Mexico’s famous composer, Alvaro Carrillo. She appreciates his music and says, “His music is timeless and the work of a romantic who appreciated and understood women.”
Years later, after her return to the U. S., she worked on other “learning experiences” and then set her sights on journalism. She published a bilingual newspaper, “El Hispano” for a period of six years in the state of Nebraska, where she was raised as a child.
During Dawn’s tenure with her newspaper, “El Hispano” she was selected for several coveted awards for her efforts, in the State of Nebraska., including the “1995 First Lady’s Award for Service to the Communities of Nebraska “, presented by Mrs. Ben Nelson, the former Governor’s wife. She also won the coveted “State of Nebraska 1996 Pro Lingua Award” for contributions to Foreign Language and Cultures.
She states, “The fascinating aspects of Latin America have to do with music, art, dance rhythms, history, attitudes and most importantly, the heart and soul of a people who are family orientated.”
To support herself, a teenage daughter, and the newspaper, she spent many hours filling out immigrations papers for countless individuals needing her “secretarial services” from Central American countries and Mexico. She states, “The Latino people work together as families, know how to enjoy life and have the courage to dream and work hard for a better life for their children, similarly as my European ancestors did before me”.
She is the very proud mother of three daughters, Sherri, & Michellle, who reside in Colorado Springs, Co., and Cindy, of Santa Barbara, Ca.
Dawn lived many years as a single mother before the existence of adequate laws to protect women with children, monetarily or otherwise. She says, “Fortunately, we finally have access to resources and laws to protect our children and our safety as women”. Dawn is a catalyst, and is dedicated to the giving of inspiration to those who need it; to promote understanding for families and individuals who desperately need to communicate with someone.
