The “Light of the Dawn” project is dedicated to providing assistance to all women, regardless of age, marital or economical status, in reference to physical and/or emotional abuse, by offering her talents as a “sounding board” for women and families in jeopardy. Abuse, violent crimes, rapes and assaults by unknown individuals are our societies’ worst problems and the numbers of these cases are growing rapidly.
- 174 women are physically and/or sexually assaulted every hour!
- One rape or sexual assault occurs every two minutes.
- One violent crime occurs every 5 seconds in the U. S.
- 260,000 rapes and sexual assaults occurred in the U. S. in the year 2000.
- 90, 180 forcible rapes in the year 2000 as reported to law enforcement.
- In the year 2000, 2.8% of college age women experienced rape in a six month period of time according to a U. S. Department of Justice study.
- 17% of rape or sexual assault victims were victimized by someone they knew!
- One murder of a female occurs every 34 minutes.
- Each year, approximately 1.5 million women in the U. S. are raped or physically assaulted by an intimate partner. This number includes more than 324,000 women who were pregnant when the violence occurred.
* These statistics do not include the mental anguish caused by family problems, emotional abuse, threats or verbal abuse, which are prevalent in many, many more households.
